Fry's Run

Fry’s Run is a tributary to the Delaware River located in Williams Township in Northampton County .  The basin has a drainage area of 6.1 square miles and contains 6.9 stream miles.  The watershed contains no major populations centers, and it is mostly agricultural land and low-density residential development.  Fry's Run is both a High Quality-Cold Water Fishery and a Migratory Fishery.

In a PA Department of Environmental Protection Report dated 2002, Fry’s Run was described to have “abundant brown trout,” among other diverse aquatic biota.   Fry’s Run is listed on the 2006 Class A Wild Trout Waters list issued by the PA Fish and Boat Commission from “spring 1530 m upstream of the Delaware River to the mouth”.

The mission of the Northampton County Conservation District (NCCD) is to provide the public with a coordinated program of quality natural resource education and conservation within Northampton County .  The Fry’s Run watershed has been identified by the Northampton County Board of Directors as a critical geographic area in the county.

NCCD is working together in partnership with the Fry’s Run Watershed Association.  This organization’s mission and goals are to protect, preserve and improve the quality of the water and land in the Fry’s Run Watershed.

The plan will be developed to identify potential problems and resource protection and enhancement opportunities for the Fry’s Run watershed.  This will be the first conservation plan developed for the watershed and is necessary for the preservation and protection of the Fry’s Run, which is both a High Quality-Cold Water Fishery and a Migratory Fishery.  The proposed plan will be the first step toward improving the health of this coldwater ecosystem.  The plan will be used as a basis for future funding for more detailed watershed studies and restoration and implementation efforts.
