Rasler Run

Rasler
Run is an approximately 4,442 acre watershed within the scenic Indian
Creek Gorge. A second order
stream and a tributary to Indian Creek, Rasler Run enters Indian Creek
just west of
Normalville
,
PA.
The Rasler Run Watershed
is bisected by Route 711 and is largely comprised of wooded areas with
some meadow and farmland included. The
watershed supports a relatively sparse and economically depressed human
population
.
The
Fayette County Conservation District (FCCD) is a division of local
government that works with the local community to take care of the natural
resources. This includes
educating the community on the lasting value and benefits of protecting
soil, water, wildlife, plants and trees.
The
FCCD believes that by completing a Coldwater Conservation Plan on Rasler
Run a clearer picture of the threats to this watershed will appear and
that an appropriate conservation and protection plan can be developed,
including the definition of any additional detailed studies that may be
necessary.
The
FCCD has several project partners for the project including the Mountain
Watershed Association, the Chestnut Ridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the
Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Western Pennsylvania
Conservancy’s
Watershed
Assistance
Center
. The Mountain Watershed
Association has agreed to help facilitate the required public meetings as
they are a local non-profit, grassroots watershed association working
within the area and the PFBC has agreed to help with the development of
the conservation plan for the stream by providing the FCCD with their
expertise on conservation and protection techniques.
In addition, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s
Watershed
Assistance
Center
as well as the Chestnut Ridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited have both offered
to help with the development of the conservation plan.
